Biography of Takeshi Kaneshiro
Takeshi Kaneshiro, a talented actor with an unexpectedly attractive appearance and excellent physicality, combined with immense untapped inner energy, garnered attention from Hollywood. He was born in Taiwan, the son of a Japanese father and a native Taiwanese mother. Takeshi grew up in Taiwan and only visited his father's homeland, Japan, for the first time when he was 18 years old.
Even while still in school, his extraordinary charming looks caught the attention of television producers, who offered him roles in commercials. At the age of 19, he made his debut as a pop singer, releasing his first album in 1992. Fortunately, at such a tender age, he signed a contract with the giant company Polygram after his album became a hit. Of course, sacrifices had to be made - Takeshi had to leave school after the 10th grade. After his album's success, he was invited to play a role in the action film "Heroic Trio 2: Executioners". The film may not have been particularly successful, but Takeshi was noticed and within the following year, he managed to appear in four films and release three song albums.
Rising Career in Hong Kong Cinema
Takeshi's career was on the rise, and although he was not yet actively cast in leading roles in major projects alongside commercial successes like Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, or Jet Li, Hong Kong cinema in the second half of the 90s began to undergo a sharp transformation. Takeshi's talents came in handy at this time. Having established himself as an excellent romantic actor (he appeared in two films by Wong Kar-Wai), he started his career in action films. Not that he hadn't appeared in such films before, but previously his roles in this genre were limited to either comedic characters or quiet and vulnerable friends of the main protagonist. A breakthrough occurred in 1997 with the release of "Downtown Torpedoes," which showcased him alongside the already established action star Jordan Chan. The film was even released in the USA, as was his subsequent film "Hero". His unexpectedly attractive appearance and excellent physicality, combined with his immense untapped inner energy, led to his invitation to Hollywood.
Unfortunately, his Hollywood venture did not go as smoothly as desired. The film "Too Tired to Die," despite being shot in 1998, has yet to be released in the USA. However, it was recently decided to release it in limited theaters, so it will be available for viewing in select cinemas in August. The year 1998 was a turning point for Takeshi. After filming in the USA, he didn't stay in Hong Kong for long and set his sights on the Land of the Rising Sun, where he went to test his luck. Japan immediately embraced him as a star. During his two-year stay there, he graced countless magazine covers and even released a video game, "Onimusha: Demon Warrior," in which he played the lead role. His last film, "Space Travellers," caused quite a stir in Japan, and now he has returned to Hong Kong to star in the film "Lavender," where he will play an angel.
