Biography of Talisa Soto
Talisa Soto (born Miriam Soto) is an American actress and model. She was born on May 27, 1967, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Her parents moved to Brooklyn from Puerto Rico in the 1950s. When she was young, her parents decided to relocate to Northampton, Massachusetts.
Early Career
Soto got her first modeling job in 1982 when she was just fifteen years old. In 1985, she attempted to sign a contract with the modeling agency "Ford," but was rejected because she looked "too" Latin. Soto then signed a contract with "Click Model Management" and made her way to Europe. She established herself as one of the top models of the 1980s and was very busy with her modeling career, working in Italy and France. Soto appeared on the covers of magazines such as Vogue, Mademoiselle, Glamour, and Self.
Acting Career
In 1988, Soto returned to the United States, auditioned, and landed the role of India in her debut film, Paul Morrissey's "Spike of Bensonhurst," a comedy starring Sasha Mitchell and Ernest Borgnine. In 1989, she starred in another film about superagent James Bond, "Licence to Kill," alongside Timothy Dalton, and portrayed Maria Rivera in the musical drama "The Mambo Kings." Soto has appeared in over 20 films, including "Mortal Kombat" in 1995 as Princess Kitana, "Pinero" in 2001, starring Benjamin Bratt, and "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever" in 2002, alongside Lucy Liu and Antonio Banderas.
Other Endeavors
Soto also guest-starred in the television series "C-16: FBI." In 1995, she played the role of Dona Julia in the ironic comedy "Don Juan DeMarco," where actor Johnny Depp portrayed the lead. She also appeared in the music video for Mark Anthony's song "I Need to Know." In 1996, Soto starred in the stylish film "Vampirella," based on the comic book series. Soto was married to Costas Mandylor from 1997 to 2000 before their divorce. She met Benjamin Bratt on the set of the film "Pinero" and they married on April 13, 2002. The couple has two children, daughter Sofia Rosalinda Bratt (born December 6, 2002), and son Mateo Bravery Bratt (born October 3, 2005). The family resides in Los Angeles, California.
