Biography of Tamara Chernova

Tamara Chernova was born in Sverdlovsk in a family of a party worker. She was thirteen years old when the Great Patriotic War broke out. Like many war children, she had to work at a factory and take shifts at hospitals. After the war, her father was transferred to Kyiv to rebuild the destroyed city. The whole family, including Tamara, moved with him. In the capital of Ukraine, Tamara joined the theater studio at the Kyiv Russian Theater named after Lesya Ukrainka, thus beginning her acting career.
In 1947, Tamara Chernova graduated from the theater studio and went to Leningrad. Luck smiled upon her as she was admitted to the acting department of the Leningrad Theater Institute (Boris Zon's course).
Early Acting Career

A year later, Tamara made her film debut. Director Konstantin Yudin cast her in the leading role of Nadezhda Voronova in the war drama "Brave People". The film, which told the story of heroic workers at a stud farm who organized a partisan detachment during the war, was released in 1950 and received a great response from the audience. Tamara Chernova became incredibly popular overnight. Despite receiving offers from other directors, she had to decline them as she got married to Konstantin Savitsky, a costume designer at the State Academic Bolshoi Theater, and gave birth to their daughter. After the release of the film "Brave People," Tamara Chernova enrolled in the second year of the Moscow Art Theater School. In 1953, after completing her studies, she joined the Moscow Art Theater's troupe named after Mossoviet. Here she worked for many years, creating numerous interesting characters. One of Tamara Chernova's most famous roles was Nina in the play "Masquerade" based on the famous work by M.Yu. Lermontov.
Career in Film

Tamara Chernova returned to the cinema screen in 1955, playing Sasha Verkhovskaya in the melodrama "Favorite Song" and Marina Nazarova in the sports drama "Journey into Youth". However, these films did not achieve great success. The same can be said for most of her subsequent films. The exception was the remarkable drama "A Nest of Gentry" (1969), directed by Andrei Konchalovsky and based on Turgenev's novel, in which the actress played the role of Maria Dmitrievna. Among Tamara Chernova's other film works are the witch Marfa Petrovna in the fairy tale "Two Days of Wonder" (1970), Shustova in the detective film "The Task with Three Unknowns" (1979), Natalya Goncharova in the historical-biographical film "And with You Again..." (1981), and Maria Antonovna in the socio-psychological drama "Sedov's Defender" (1988). Tamara Chernova got married for the second time to lawyer Boris Brushtein. They lived together for ten years.
In 1991, due to leg and heart problems, Tamara Chernova had to leave the theater. The film industry, in which she rarely appeared anyway, also became a thing of the past. Tamara Alexandrovna dedicated all her free time to her granddaughter.
In 1998, after a long hiatus, the actress returned to the screen, playing the role of an old baroness in the popular TV series "Poor Lisa".
