Tamara Lempicka: A Biography
Tamara Lempicka was a renowned artist working in the Art Deco movement. Born on May 16, 1898 in Warsaw, she grew up in a family of a well-known and respected lawyer, Boris Gorski. Lempicka received a proper education and was surrounded by the beauty and glamour of high society. However, she often clashed with her parents and decided to move to St. Petersburg as a young girl. There, she got married and due to the complicated situation in the country, she and her husband were forced to immigrate to France at the end of 1917.

In her new home, Lempicka began exploring her artistic talents. She took lessons from artists such as Maurice Denis and André Lhote. She became a regular visitor to various exhibitions and galleries, striving to attend all the significant cultural events in Paris.
A Step Towards Fame
Lempicka's collaboration with the prominent publication "Harpers Bazaar" and her passionate romance with writer Gabriele d'Annunzio further propelled her into the limelight. Her paintings started being exhibited in the most prestigious galleries across Europe, mostly consisting of portraits of famous and intriguing personalities. Many art critics labeled Lempicka's art as commercial, as it allowed her to become one of the shining social figures.
Continued Success in the United States
In the 1930s, Tamara Lempicka relocated to the United States. She remarried for the second time, leaving her past behind. In the U.S., she continued to conquer high society. Her impeccable fashion sense always kept her in style. Lempicka became an elegant woman, establishing herself as a trendsetter in the glamorous world of fashion.
Due to her wealthy and influential husband, Lempicka did not need to work, so she spent her free time creating interiors for famous Hollywood personalities. In the mid-1960s, she experienced a resurgence in her artistic success. Lempicka exhibited her work in Paris once again, receiving highly favorable and vibrant reviews from critics.
The Later Years
Tamara Lempicka passed away on March 18, 1980. The last years of her life were marked by constant depression and regret. She had become one of the original social figures of the 1920s, captivating the world with not only her beauty and elegance but also her unconventional views on art and public opinion.
