Early Life and CareerZurab Sturua was born in Georgia, then part of the Soviet Union. He quickly emerged as a talented chess player and became a Georgian champion multiple times. Sturua participated in three USSR Championships, achieving his best results in 1978 (4th place) and 1979 (5th-7th place).
International Success
Sturua also excelled in international tournaments. He was the winner of the World University Chess Championship in 1969 as part of the Soviet team. Additionally, he captured the European Club Cup with the "Burevestnik" team.
