Biography of Tamia Renee Washington
Early Life and CareerTamia Renee Washington was born on May 9, 1976, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. She was the eldest of four children, born to a young mother at the age of 17. Tamia began singing at the age of 4 and received vocal training and performance experience in her hometown of Windsor. In her early youth, she won several awards, including the YTV Youth Achievement Award in the vocal category in 1993. She also received a music scholarship named after Steve Ross from the American Academy of Achievement.

Breakthrough
Tamia's breakthrough came in 1994 when she caught the attention of Quincy Jones, who was impressed by her voice. He invited her to collaborate on his album Q's Jook Joint, where she recorded the single "You Put A Move On My Heart." The song became a hit and introduced Tamia to the world. Marriage and Continued Success
While in Detroit, Tamia was introduced to professional basketball player Grant Hill by singer Anita Baker. They began dating and eventually got married on July 24, 1999.
