Early Life and Development
Tamira Paszek was born on December 6, 1990, in Dornbirn, Austria. Inspired by her Chilean mother, she began playing tennis at the age of 4.5. Her Tanzanian-born father, Ariff Mohamed, raised in Kenya, currently resides in Canada.
Junior Success and Early Career
As a junior, Paszek reached the finals of the 2005 Wimbledon and 2006 US Open girls' singles events. In 2005, she won her first ITF tournament in Sofia. She made her WTA debut in Linz that year, where she defeated Elena Vesnina before falling to Ana Ivanovic.
Breakthrough Season
In 2006, Paszek secured her first WTA title at the Banka Koper Slovenia Open, becoming the seventh-youngest champion in the tournament's history. She also reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, establishing herself as a rising star.
Consistent Performances
Throughout the following years, Paszek maintained a consistent presence in the WTA Top 50. She reached the quarterfinals of the 2008 Rogers Cup and finished as the runner-up at the Bali Open. In 2009, she partnered with Angel Giminez as her coach.
Doping Allegations
In 2009, Paszek was involved in doping allegations, which led her to miss part of the playing season, including Wimbledon.
Return to Top 100 and Wimbledon Success
After clearing her name, Paszek returned to competition and regained her place in the Top 100 in 2010. In 2011, she made history by becoming the first Austrian woman to reach the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.
