A Pre-Minus Era

Before the formation of the iconic alternative band Tanci Minus, frontman Slava Petkun was a prominent figure in the Leningrad punk scene with the band "Taynoye Golosovaniye," where he performed until 1992.

The Birth of Tanci Minus

In preparation for the "Pokoleniye 96" festival, Tanci Minus was assembled shortly before the event, where their talent was first recognized. After a brief hiatus from music between 1992 and 1995, Petkun stabilized the band's lineup and relocated to Moscow with bassist Oleg Polevshchikov.

Moscow Breakthrough and Debut Album

With only a single friend in the capital, Tanci Minus began performing relentlessly in Moscow's clubs, often playing up to three sets per day. The band's debut album, "10 Kapel," was recorded during this period with a mixed lineup of Moscow and Saint Petersburg musicians. The album showcased a unique blend of swing, jazz, and new wave influences, featuring instruments like saxophone and cello.

Rise to Prominence

In 1999, Tanci Minus achieved their breakout moment with the release of their song "Gorod" on the "Sbornik Sovershenno Inoy Muzyki U1." The song placed highly in the "U1 Listeners' Hit Parade," propelling the band into the mainstream. Subsequent successful performances at major festivals like "Maxidrom" and "Megakhaus" cemented their status.

"Flora i Fauna" and Music Videos

As the band worked on their second album, "Flora i Fauna," they also released music videos for the popular songs "Gorod" and "Tsvetut Tzvety." The album marked a continued exploration of their distinctive sound, capturing the essence of the band's live energy.
