He is the brother of renowned film director Sam Raimi, known for directing the "Spider-Man" film series. His mother, Celia Barbara, owned a lingerie store, while his father, Leonard Ronald Raimi, owned a hardware store. As a child, Ted's babysitter was actor Bruce Campbell. He attended the University of Michigan, New York University, and finally obtained his higher education at the University of Detroit.

Ted Raimi began his acting career as an extra in his brother Sam Raimi's films.
