Early Life and Education
Tech Hooi Hong was born in Singapore on March 14, 1930. He attended the Anglo-Chinese School in Singapore and later earned three degrees: a Bachelor of Science from Pacific Western University, a Master of Business Administration from Clayton University, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Malaya.
Career at Overseas-Chinese Banking Corporation Ltd. and Malayan Banking Berhad
Tech Hong's career in banking began in 1950 when he joined Overseas-Chinese Banking Corporation Ltd. as a clerk. Within five years, he rose to the position of inspector. In 1960, he joined Malayan Banking Berhad as a manager. At the age of 34, he was appointed Managing Director of the bank, a position he held until 1966.
Founding of Public Bank
In 1966, Tech Hong founded Public Bank. Under his leadership, the bank grew to become one of the largest in Malaysia, with over 14,000 employees and operations in several countries, including Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Sri Lanka. Public Bank has a wide network of branches in Malaysia (approximately 241), contributing to its popularity and accessibility.

Public Bank has consistently received recognition and awards for its performance and commitment to customer service. In 2007, the bank won numerous awards, including the Asean Banker of the Year, Lifetime Contribution to Banking, and Recognition Award. Tech Hong himself has received five awards in recognition of his leadership.
