Biography of The Great Khali

Dilip Singh Rana, better known by his ring name The Great Khali, is an Indian bodybuilder and professional wrestler who currently performs in WWE. He was born on August 27, 1972, in the village of Dhirana, in Himachal Pradesh.

Early Life and Career

Dilip was born into a poor family in Dhirana, Punjab, and was the third of eight brothers. In his youth, he worked in a stone quarry to support his family. In 1993, he worked as a road construction worker in the Himalayan Mountains, but his life was about to change.

At that time, Singh began participating in various sports competitions and achieved notable success in bodybuilding. His dedication and success caught the attention of the Chief of Police in Punjab, who offered him a position in the police force. This allowed Dilip to have more free time to work on his body. As a result, he won the title of Mr. India in 1997 and 1998.

His success and dedication led him to pursue wrestling training in the United States in 1999. This allowed him to enhance his skills and compete with other wrestlers. Khali gained popularity in Japan, where he participated in numerous matches.

Wrestling Career

Dilip made his wrestling debut in October 2000 in the All Pro Wrestling federation, teaming up with Tony Jones and defeating "The West Side Playas 2000." However, tragedy struck on May 28, 2001, when he accidentally killed trainee Brian Ong during a match. All Pro Wrestling lost a lawsuit and had to pay over $1.3 million to Ong's parents.

In August 2001, Dilip Singh joined the New Japan Pro Wrestling promotion, where he became the leader of the "Team 2000" alongside another giant wrestler, Big Silva. This was when he adopted the name Giant Singh. He had several victories but also suffered significant defeats during his wrestling career.

On January 2, 2006, Singh signed a contract with WWE and was sent to Deep South Wrestling for training. He made his debut on SmackDown! on April 7, 2006, attacking The Undertaker during his match with Mark Henry. The following week, he appeared in the ring, introduced himself as The Great Khali, and hailed from the jungles of India. His manager, Daivari, spoke about his phenomenal abilities.

Outside the Ring

It is worth noting that The Great Khali has also ventured into the world of cinema. He played the role of a football player named Turley in the movie "The Longest Yard," alongside other wrestlers such as Steve Austin, Goldberg, Kevin Nash, and Bob Sapp.

Despite his imposing height of 7' 2" (often announced as 7' 3") and weight of 408 pounds, maintaining his physique requires a strict and demanding diet. Khali consumes one gallon of milk, five chickens, two dozen eggs, and juice and fruits each day.

Dilip Singh Rana, also known as The Great Khali, has had a remarkable journey from a poor family in Punjab to becoming a prominent figure in the world of professional wrestling. His dedication to bodybuilding and wrestling has earned him recognition and success both in India and internationally.
