Early Life and Education

Theodor Jorissen was born in the Netherlands and attended the University of Utrecht, where he earned his degree.

Academic Career

In 1865, Jorissen became a professor of history and literature at the Athenaeum (later the University) in Amsterdam.

Literary Works

Jorissen's early works included "Abelard and Heloise"(1862), a historical novel, and biographical sketches of Charlotte Corday(1864) and Constantine Huygens(1864). He also published Huygens's memoirs.

Jorissen's historical research focused on various topics, including:
