Chancellor's ShadowTheodor Blank, a prominent German politician, played a pivotal role in post-World War II Germany. He co-founded the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in 1945 and served as a member of the German Bundestag from 1949 to 1972, where he held various leadership positions.
"Empty Office" and Rearmament
From 1950 to 1955, Blank headed the "Empty Office," a covert organization tasked with coordinating with Allied occupation forces. Under Chancellor Konrad Adenauer's direction, Blank secretly prepared for the restoration of German armed forces.
Minister of Defense
Despite opposition to rearmament, Blank played a key role in the official reestablishment of the Bundeswehr. He served as its first post-war Minister of Defense from 1955 to 1956.
Minister of Labor and Social Affairs
In 1957, Blank was appointed Minister of Labor and Social Affairs. He held this position until 1965, overseeing labor relations and social welfare programs.
