Therese initially participated in artistic gymnastics but later decided to switch to cross-country skiing. Her role models were Marit Bjørgen and Bente Skari. In 2006, after successful performances at the national level, Therese participated in the Norwegian Championship in 2007. She won a bronze medal in the 7.5+7.5 kilometer pursuit, marking a successful debut.

Therese qualified for two World Cup races, finishing 8th and 33rd, respectively. These results earned her a spot in the World Championship in Sapporo, where she exceeded expectations and won a bronze medal in the 30-kilometer race. At the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Therese competed in the 4x5-kilometer relay, 15-kilometer pursuit, and 30-kilometer mass start events. She placed 7th in the mass start, 6th in the pursuit, and secured a gold medal in the relay.
