Early Life and Education
Born in 1965, Tom Brown grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from William Allen High School and later attended the University of Notre Dame.
Early Career
After attempting to start his own business in Los Angeles, Brown relocated to New York City in 1997. He worked as a salesman at Giorgio Armani before joining Club Monaco, a brand under Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation.
Own Label
In 2001, Brown established his eponymous label. His initial focus was on tailored menswear. However, he expanded to a full-fledged Ready-to-Wear collection for Spring/Summer 2004.
Awards and Recognition
Brown's exceptional talent has been acknowledged with prestigious awards. In 2005, he received the Rising Star Award and the CFDA VOGUE Fund Award. In 2006, he was named the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year and a finalist for the National Design Award.
Partnership with Brooks Brothers
On September 8, 2006, Brown entered a partnership with Brooks Brothers. He introduced a sleek gray-and-black palette and sharp, tailored silhouettes, symbolized by the signature black fleece logo. The collection's success led to the creation of the separate "Black Fleece" line and a three-year extension of Brown's contract with Brooks Brothers.
Collaborations
Brown has also collaborated with other renowned brands. In 2006, he designed a line of men's jewelry for Harry Winston. In January 2009, he unveiled a menswear collection for Moncler.
Samsonite Partnership
Recently, Brown has extended his influence to the world of travel accessories. He was commissioned by Samsonite, a leading producer of luggage, to create a 1960s-inspired collection titled "Sixties."
