Stefan Allofs: A Prolific German Striker
Early Career at Fortuna DüsseldorfStefan Allofs, born on October 18, 1957, in Düsseldorf, embarked on his professional football career at the age of 19 with Fortuna Düsseldorf. Despite being the younger brother of renowned striker Klaus Allofs, Stefan quickly established himself as a formidable goal-scorer in his own right. During his first season, he netted an impressive 5 goals in 17 appearances.
Prolific Stint at Kaiserslautern
In 1982, Allofs made the move to Kaiserslautern, where he continued to find the back of the net with ease. Over several seasons, he averaged around 15 goals per season, despite the team's inability to secure a championship title, finishing as high as second place.
Success at FC Köln
Seeking a fresh challenge, Allofs joined FC Köln in 1986, where he reunited with his brother. During his time at the club, he reached the pinnacle of his career, winning the West German Footballer of the Year award in 1989 and leading the league in scoring with 17 goals. Köln ultimately finished as runners-up in the championship.
Strasbourg Sojourn and Return to Fortuna Düsseldorf
In a brief departure from the Bundesliga, Allofs spent five months with Strasbourg in France in 1991. Upon his return, he rejoined his first club, Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he eventually retired from playing in 1992. After hanging up his boots, Allofs assumed the role of general manager at Fortuna.
International Career
Despite his prolific goal-scoring at the club level, Allofs made only two appearances for the German national team. Although he was part of the squad that finished second at the 1982 World Cup, he did not play a single match in the tournament.
