Thomas Vikström: A Versatile Vocal Virtuoso

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Thomas Vikström, born to renowned Swedish opera singer Sven Erik Vikström, inherited his musical aptitude. Growing up, he developed a passion for rock music, idolizing bands like Kiss and Alice Cooper. As a teenager, he formed his own band that disbanded around 1990.

Opera and Theater Success

Vikström's pursuit of music led him to the Folkoperan Opera in Stockholm, where he made his debut as the protagonist in "The Barefoot Life." His breakthrough came in 1991 with his portrayal of Hoffmann in Offenbach's "The Tales of Hoffmann."

Collaboration with Candlemass

In 1991, Vikström joined the doom metal legends Candlemass as their vocalist for "Chapter VI." However, he departed shortly after the album's release due to financial disputes.

Solo Career and Musical Diversity

In 1994, Vikström released his only solo album, "If I Could Fly." His eclectic career extended to comedy musicals, where he played the enigmatic Dave Bukatinsky in "The Full Monty." Vikström also honed his acting skills under the guidance of renowned Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård.

Session Vocalist and Musical Pursuits

Throughout the late 1990s, Vikström became a prolific session vocalist in the Scandinavian rock scene. He performed in children's plays, worked as a choir director, and sang at religious services. From the 2000s onward, he dedicated himself solely to music.

Therion and Accolades

In 2009, Vikström officially joined Therion as their lead vocalist. His powerful voice and stage presence have established him as one of the most distinguished figures in the symphonic metal genre.
