Biography of Timofey Krasnobaev

Timofey Krasnobaev was a Russian surgeon and one of the pioneers of pediatric surgery in the country. He was born in Smolensk. In 1888, he graduated from the Medical Faculty of Moscow University.

Contributions to Pediatric Surgery

From 1919 to 1952, Krasnobaev worked as a consultant at the Institute of Tuberculosis of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. Starting from 1939, he became the head of the surgical department at the First Moscow Children's Clinical Hospital (formerly known as Morozov Hospital).

Krasnobaev's works focused on the treatment of urinary stone disease, acute appendicitis, pylorospasm, and acute hematogenous osteomyelitis in children. He was the founder of a new approach to the conservative treatment of pediatric bone and joint tuberculosis, proposing several innovative therapeutic techniques.

In 1922, Krasnobaev performed the first surgery for congenital pyloric stenosis in an infant in the USSR. He also established an original school for doctors specializing in bone tuberculosis.

Recognition and Legacy

In 1945, Krasnobaev was elected a full member (academician) of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. He was an honorary member of the surgical societies of Moscow and Leningrad, the Society of Pediatricians, and the Society of Radiologists.

Timofey Krasnobaev passed away on October 11, 1952, in Moscow. His contributions to pediatric surgery and his innovative treatment methods continue to impact the field to this day. He was a highly respected figure in the medical community and played a crucial role in advancing the field of pediatric surgery in Russia.
