Early Career
Timothy Luwawu-Cabarrot is a French professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the NBA. Born in France to a Congolese father, he began his basketball career with Antibes Sharks in 2012. He played five games for the team between 2012 and 2014 before signing his first professional contract in January 2014.
Mega Leks
Following his time in Antibes, Luwawu-Cabarrot joined Serbian club Mega Leks in July 2015. He spent one season with the team, helping them win the Serbian Cup and earning All-ABA League Team honors. In 28 games for Mega Leks, he averaged 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.
NBA Draft and Philadelphia 76ers
In April 2016, Luwawu-Cabarrot declared for the NBA draft. He was subsequently selected with the 24th overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. He signed his rookie-scale contract with the team in July 2016 and made his NBA debut in October. During his rookie season, he played for both the 76ers and their NBA G League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers.
Oklahoma City Thunder and Chicago Bulls
In July 2018, Luwawu-Cabarrot was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He spent the 2018-19 season with the Thunder before being traded to the Chicago Bulls in February 2019.
Brooklyn Nets
In October 2019, Luwawu-Cabarrot signed a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets. He was converted to a multi-year contract in February 2020. In the 2020-21 season, he played an important role for the Nets, starting 38 games and averaging 10.5 points per game.
International Career
Luwawu-Cabarrot has represented France at the youth level, competing in the FIBA Europe Under-20 Championships in 2014 and 2015. He helped France reach the semifinals in 2015, averaging 11.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Luwawu-Cabarrot was also a member of the French national team that won the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
