Early Career and BreakthroughTimothy Bradley, an American professional boxer, made his debut in August 2004 in the 1st welterweight division. His breakthrough came in December 2006 against Colombian Jaime Rangel. Bradley's superior speed and technique gave him the advantage, and despite a mid-fight collision of heads, Bradley won by technical knockout after the doctor deemed Rangel unfit to continue due to a cut above his eye.
Victories and Championship Contender
In February 2007, Bradley faced Mexican Manuel Garnica, delivering a devastating combination of punches that sent Garnica to the canvas. Despite a spirited recovery effort from Garnica, Bradley's power and precision proved too much, as he secured a unanimous decision victory after eight rounds.
Bradley's dominance continued in June 2007 against Donald Camarena, where his superior speed and technique overcame Camarena's physical advantages, earning him a comfortable victory after ten rounds.
WBC Title Shot and Triumph
In March 2008, Bradley was scheduled to fight José Luis Castillo for the WBC title eliminator, but Castillo failed to make weight. Consequently, Bradley was awarded a shot at the title without a fight.
In May 2008, Bradley challenged WBC 1st welterweight champion Junior Witter. In a thrilling bout, Bradley delivered a decisive right hook in the 6th round, briefly flooring Witter. Despite Witter's attempts to recover, Bradley's unrelenting pressure and superior boxing skills won the judges' favor, giving him a split decision victory and the coveted WBC championship.
Continued Title Defenses
Bradley's reign as champion was solidified in September 2008 against Bahamian Edner Cherry. Bradley controlled the fight throughout, showcasing his superior movement and technical prowess. A precise right cross in the 8th round knocked Cherry down, but he managed to survive the round. The judges unanimously awarded Bradley a wide victory after twelve rounds.
