Early Life and Influences
Timothy Hutton was born in Malibu, California, on August 16, 1960. His father, Jim Hutton, was an actor, and his mother, Maryline Baffic, was a social worker. After his parents divorced, Timothy lived with his mother in Berkeley, California.
Acting Debut and Academy Award Victory
Hutton's acting career began in high school and summer stock theater with his father. After moving to Southern California with his father, he started appearing in television movies. In 1980, Robert Redford cast him in his directorial debut, "Ordinary People," which would prove to be a transformative moment in his career.
Hutton's portrayal of Conrad Jarrett, a troubled teenager struggling with the death of his older brother, earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor at the age of 19. This made him the youngest actor in history to receive the honor.
Beyond "Ordinary People"
