Timur Kulibayev began his business career in the 1990s, focusing on oil extraction. In 1997, control over the oil industry was completely transferred to the company "KazakhOil," where Kulibayev assumed the role of Vice President. In 2000, he became the President of "KazTransOil." The following year, he was appointed to a leadership position in "TransNefteGaz," which controls the entire oil and gas pipeline system in the country. In 2002, "KazMunaiGas" was established, and for three years, Kulibayev served as Vice President. He left this position due to a new appointment. In October 2005, he assumed the position of Chairman at "KazEnergy." However, after a few months, he returned to "KazMunaiGas," where he became the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors.
