Tito Jackson: The Jackson 5 Star
Toriano Adaryll Jackson, known as Tito Jackson, was an American singer, musician, and the third of ten children in the Jackson family. Along with his brothers, he formed the legendary group The Jackson 5.
The Jackson 5
In 1964, Tito, along with his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael, formed The Jackson 5. The group quickly gained local popularity and signed with Motown Records in 1969. They released a string of chart-topping singles, including "I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save," and "I'll Be There."
Motown Years
Despite his guitar skills, Motown forbade Tito from playing on the group's studio recordings, using session musicians instead. In 1976, The Jackson 5 left Motown for CBS Records. Tito began writing songs with his brothers, and in 1984, Michael and Marlon departed the group.
Legacy and Hall of Fame
The Jackson 5 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Tito reunited with his brothers for Michael Jackson's 30th anniversary celebration in 2001 and for the Unity Tour in 2012.
Solo Career
Tito embarked on a solo career as a blues musician in 2003. In 2016, his commercially successful single "Get It Baby" from the album "Tito Time" charted on Billboard.
Personal Life and Family
Tito married Dolores Martes in 1972, and they had three sons: Toriano "Taj" (born 1973), Taryll (born 1975), and Toriano Jr. "T.J." (born 1978). His sons formed the group 3T. Tito had nine grandchildren.
Death and Legacy
