Early Life and Displacement

Born into a Peasant Family

Taisto Vitalyevich Ryannel was born on October 25, 1921, in the village of Tozerovo, Petrograd Governorate, into an Ingrian peasant family.

Forced Relocation to Siberia

In April 1931, Ryannel and his family were forcibly relocated to the Udereysky (now Motyginsky) district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

Education and Early Career

Artistic Training

Despite his displacement, Ryannel pursued his passion for art. He attended the South Yenisei Polytechnic School and later, with special permission, enrolled in the Omsk Art School in 1939.

Military Service and Geodetic Work

Ryannel's education was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. He was twice mobilized but eventually recalled. He worked as a technical draftsman and surveyor for the Yenisei Topographic and Topogeodetic Expedition.

Artistic Development in Krasnoyarsk

Member of the Union of Artists

In 1946, Ryannel moved to Krasnoyarsk and became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1947. He served as the organization's regional secretary.

Artistic Education and Recognition

Ryannel attended the Institute for Advanced Qualification of Artists-Frontoviks, organized by Academician I. E. Grabar. In 1974, he received the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR, and in 1991, he was named People's Artist of the RSFSR.

Literary Pursuits

Poetic Publications

Alongside his painting, Ryannel explored his literary talents. He published poetry in collections and magazines. His essays and books of prose were also well-received.

Rehabilitation and Repatriation

Civil Rehabilitation

In 1993, Ryannel underwent civil rehabilitation by order of the Russian president.

Repatriation to Finland

In 1995, he and his family moved to Finland as repatriants. He settled in Vantaa, where he lived until his death.

Recognition and Legacy

Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts

In 2010, Ryannel was elected an honorary academician of the Russian Academy of Arts.

Ryannel's paintings, such as "Birth of the Yenisei," "Mountain Cedars," and "Portrait of Mother," showcase his talent and love for his homeland.

Collections and Exhibitions

His works are displayed in museums worldwide, including the Krasnoyarsk State Art Museum named after V. I. Surikov.

Taisto Vitalyevich Ryannel passed away on March 15, 2012, at the age of 90 in Vantaa.

Exhibitions and Commemoration

Ryannel's first solo exhibition was held in 1959. His works continue to be showcased in exhibitions around the world. A 2001 exhibition in Krasnoyarsk celebrated his 80th birthday.
