Tom Buchanan: The Spider Boy

Record-Breaking Spider Encounter

In 2014, Australian teenager Tom Buchanan emerged as a Guinness World Record holder for hosting 125 live golden orb-weaver spiders on his body. Armed with plastic containers filled with spiders, Tom took to the Guinness World Records stage in Sydney.

Achieving the Record

To qualify for the record, Tom had to place at least 75 spiders on his body within 30 seconds. In a glass enclosure, he lay bare-chested while assistants emptied the containers of spiders. The arachnids quickly crawled over Tom's abdomen and chest. Despite the unusual task, Tom remained calm while the spiders roamed for 40 seconds.

A Witness's Perspective

Tom's mother attended the event and later admitted that she could only breathe a sigh of relief once the final spider was removed. However, her reaction didn't hint at the nervousness she may have felt during the ordeal.

Spider-Boy Emerges

After the spiders were collected and returned to their containers, Tom emerged from the glass enclosure to applause. He was awarded the Guinness World Record certificate for "Most Spiders (125) on a Human Body in 30 Seconds."
