Early Life and Theatrical Beginnings

Tom Taylor was born on July 16, 2001, in Surrey, England. As a young boy, he aspired to become a soccer player or a businessman like his father, with acting far from his mind. Every Saturday, Taylor and his siblings attended a local theater school that offered classes in singing, dancing, and acting. While he enjoyed these lessons, he did not envision a future for himself in the performing arts.

At age 12, Taylor left the theater school but returned six months later after dance teacher Rachel Bell urged him to audition for an upcoming agent visit. In an interview, Taylor recalled his initial audition experience as awkward and tearful. Nonetheless, the young actor caught the attention of casting professionals and landed his first television roles.

Early Film and Television Career

Taylor's breakthrough role came in 2015 when he portrayed young Uhtred in the historical series "The Last Kingdom." At the time of filming, he was just 12 years old. With no family connections to the entertainment industry, Taylor was fascinated by the filmmaking process. It was on the set of "The Last Kingdom" that he realized his true calling as an actor. Director Nick Murphy recognized his potential and introduced him to agents, one of whom became his long-term representation.

"I was like, this is insane. I'm just a random teenager, and I'm now in South Africa making a Hollywood movie," he recalled.

In the fantasy film "The Kid Who Would Be King" (2019), Taylor played the role of Lancelot. He described working with director Joe Cornish as a breeze, noting his ability to make the young cast feel like family. In the miniseries "Us" (2020), adapted from David Nicholls' novel, Taylor portrayed Albie, the only child of two artists who embark on a journey to save their marriage. Tom Hollander and Saskia Reeves played Albie's parents.

2021 saw the release of the miniseries "Close to Me," based on Amanda Reynolds' novel of the same name. Connie Nielsen starred as Joe Harding, a translator who lost a year of her memory due to an accident. Taylor played Finn, the troubled son of Joe and her husband.
