Tom Yendell: A Remarkable Armless British Artist
Tom Yendell, an awe-inspiring British artist, has created hundreds of captivating paintings. Astonishingly, the creator of these masterpieces lacks both hands.
Childhood and Adversity
Born in Winchester, England, in 1962, Yendell was born without arms due to his mother's ingestion of thalidomide during pregnancy. As the youngest of five children, he was showered with love and support that allowed him to adapt his abilities.
Embracing His Feet
Despite being provided with prosthetic arms, Yendell preferred to use his feet for virtually all tasks, including eating, writing, and drawing. It was this unusual circumstance that led him to pursue art as his calling.
Education and Artistic Journey
Yendell studied art at Hastings College of Art & Technology and later earned a degree in painting from Brighton University. During his university years, he developed a passion for photography, again using his feet to capture images.
Independence and Inner Strength
Yendell moved to London and honed his skills as an artist. He purchased a secluded cottage in Seaford, providing him with an idyllic setting for his creations. By 1986, he became a member of the Society of Women Artists.
Primitivism and Inspiration
Yendell's paintings are characterized by their primitivist style, often depicting landscapes, interiors, and everyday objects. His unique perspective and exceptional dexterity have earned him a loyal following.
A Motivational Force
Yendell's journey has inspired countless individuals. He speaks at churches and schools, sharing his message of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. He believes that limitations are not defined by physical attributes but rather by the absence of talent or determination.
Family and Partnerships
Tom Yendell is happily married to Lucy, also an artist. They have two children, Joseph Oliver and Holly Elizabeth. Yendell's family and the Society of Women Artists provide him with unwavering support, enabling him to continue his artistic endeavors and make a positive impact on the world.
