Biography of Tomas Glanc

Tomas Glanc is a Czech philologist and Slavist. He completed his studies at Charles University in 1992 and pursued his doctoral studies at the University of Konstanz from 1994 to 1996. His doctoral dissertation, "Visions of Russian Avant-gardes," was published as a monograph in 1999.

Academic Career

Since 1993, Glanc has been a research fellow at Charles University. In 2000, he became the head of the Center for Comparative Poetics and from 2002 to 2003, he served as the director of the Institute of Slavistics and Eastern Europe. In addition, since 2004, Glanc has been a research fellow at the Center for Audiovisual Studies at the Prague Film Academy and since 2007, he has been a research fellow at the Research Center for Eastern Europe at the University of Bremen.

Contributions

Glanc has prepared new editions of Roman Jakobson's collection of works, "The Formalist School and Modern Russian Literary Studies" (2005), as well as Czech editions of Fyodor Dostoevsky's "Notes from Underground," works by Anton Chekhov, Kazimir Malevich, and Yuri Mamleev.

He has also written prefaces to the Czech editions of Vladimir Sorokin's works and an afterword to the Czech translation of Victor Pelevin's novel, "Chapayev and Void." Furthermore, Glanc has written articles on the works of Vladimir Nabokov, Joseph Brodsky, Andrei Monastyrsky, Ilya Kabakov, and others.

Editorial Roles

Glanc serves as a member of the editorial boards and councils of various publications, including the journal "Novoe Literaturnoe Obozrenie" (Moscow) and "Svetová Literatura" (Prague).
