Biography of Tommy Haas

Tommy Haas is a professional tennis player who started playing at the age of four under the guidance of his father. At the age of 11, he moved to the Nick Bollettieri Academy in Florida. In 1995, he reached the final of the Orange Bowl tournament, but lost to Mariano Zabaleta. The following year, Haas turned professional and made his debut at an ATP tournament in Indianapolis, reaching the quarterfinals where he lost to Pete Sampras, the world's number one at the time.

In 1997, Haas reached the final in Lyon, defeating the seventh-ranked player in the world, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, along the way. He finished the season in the Top 50 of the world rankings, climbing 155 positions in just one year. In 1998, he reached the final in Lyon again, and also made it to the third round at Wimbledon, defeating Andre Agassi. In 1999, Haas won his first ATP tournament in Memphis, defeating former world number one Jim Courier in the final. He also reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, losing to eventual champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov.

Haas represented Germany in the Davis Cup, making his debut in 1998. In 2000, he won a silver medal at the Sydney Olympics, losing in a five-set match to Yevgeny Kafelnikov in the final. However, his performance at the Athens Olympics in 2004 was not as successful, as he was eliminated in the second round. In the same year, Haas was unable to participate in the Australian Open due to an injury.
