Biography of Tomomi Itano
Tomomi Itano is a Japanese idol, singer, and actress. She was born in Suited in the Osaka Prefecture and moved to Kanagawa Prefecture when she was 10 years old. At the age of 14, on October 30, 2005, she successfully auditioned for the idol group AKB48, with only 24 girls accepted out of 7924 applicants.
Debut and Career
On October 25, 2006, Itano made her major debut as part of AKB48 with the single "Aitakatta." In 2007, she joined the futsal team XANADU loves NHC alongside Yuko Oshima and Tomomi Kasai. In May 2007, she switched agencies to HoriPro along with her friend Tomomi Kasai.
Modeling and Solo Career
In September 2008, Itano made her debut as a model for the popular fashion magazine "cawaii!" In January 2009, she became a member of the new group AKB Idoling!!!, a collaboration between AKB48 and Idoling!!!. On April 1, 2009, she released her first photobook "T.O.M.O.rrow".
Achievements and Recognition
In the selection for the 13th single in June-July 2009, Itano secured the 7th place. On July 10, 2009, she performed as part of the group Nattou Angel at an event dedicated to Natto Day, singing their single "Nattou Angel." On March 12, 2010, she transferred from Team A to Team K. Itano also formed the duo Queen & Elizabeth with Tomomi Kasai, releasing their first single on March 31, 2010.
Continued Success
In May-June 2010, Itano ranked 4th in the selection for the 17th single ("Heavy Rotation") with 20,513 votes. She made her debut in television commercials in June 2010, appearing in an advertisement for "Ito-Yokado" company. In September 2010, she participated in the qualifying tournament for the 19th AKB48 single but did not make it to the title track.
Recognition and Solo Activities
In October 2010, Itano received the "Best Jeanist Award" from the Japan Jeans Association. She also appeared in "VOGUE girl" supplement in November 2010 and won the "Wedding Best Dresser Award" in the idol category in early December. On December 7, 2010, she participated in a fashion show for the wedding dress brand "Scena D'uno" by actress Kanda Uno.
Solo Success
In late January 2011, Itano released her first solo single "Dear J," which reached the top spot on the Oricon daily chart, the 2nd spot on the weekly chart, and the 2nd spot on the monthly chart for January. It was a major achievement for her solo career.
