Toni Braxton was born on October 7, 1967, in Severn, Maryland. Her parents, Michael and Evelyn Braxton, were a priest and an aspiring opera singer who led the church choir. Toni's musical influences include Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Chaka Khan, and Whitney Houston.
Struggles and Success with The Braxtons
Toni pursued her education at various colleges and worked in low-level jobs while also performing with her siblings in the family group The Braxtons. In 1992, the group's debut single, "The Good Life," drew the attention of producer team LA and Babyface.
Solo Debut and Critical Acclaim
As a solo artist, Toni released two commercially successful singles in 1992: "Another Sad Love Song" and "You Mean The World To Me." These earned her critical acclaim, with some hailing her as the "new Whitney Houston."
