Manu Ginobili is an Argentine professional basketball player who is a member of the Argentine national basketball team and the 'San Antonio Spurs' club in the NBA. Known as one of the best European players to make an impact in the NBA, Ginobili was also included in the list of '50 people who made the greatest contribution to the development of the EuroLeague' in 2008.
Early Life and Family
Emanuel David "Manu" Ginobili was born on July 28, 1977, in Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He comes from a family of Italian-Argentinian basketball players. His older brother, Leandro, played in the Argentine basketball league (ABL) for seven years. Another brother, Sebastián, played in both the local and Spanish basketball leagues (LEB). His father, Jorge, was a coach for a club in Bahía Blanca, where Manu learned to play basketball.
With basketball being widely popular in his hometown and Manu's admiration for the talent of Michael Jordan, it is no surprise that he rapidly developed his skills in his favorite sport. Manu holds dual citizenship in Argentina and Italy and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian. In his free time, he enjoys listening to Latin American music, watching movies, and relaxing with friends.
Personal Life and Achievements
In 2004, Ginobili married Marianela Oroño, and on May 16, 2010, they celebrated the birth of their twin boys, Dante and Nicola.
In addition to his impressive speed and aggressive style of play, Ginobili is recognized as a clutch player. He has the ability to decide the outcome of a game or situation on the court in favor of his team. This is evident through his numerous victories in the voting for the NBA's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and his outstanding performances during the San Antonio Spurs' championship campaigns.
Ginobili's intense playing methods often leave his opponents puzzled and disoriented. Ginobili was the first non-U.S. player to earn the right to wear an NBA championship ring and win Olympic gold. He is the second player from Latin America, after Rolando Blackman from Panama, to be selected to participate in the NBA All-Star Game.
