Tony Shalhoub, born Mark Anthony Shalhoub on October 9, 1953, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is an American actor known for his work in theater, film, and television. His father, an immigrant from Lebanon, married an American of Lebanese descent. Tony was the ninth of ten children in the family.
At age six, Tony's siblings encouraged him to participate in a school play, sparking his passion for the stage. After graduating from Green Bay High School, he attended the University of Maine Portland and earned an MFA from the Yale School of Drama in 1980.
Acting Career
Shalhoub's theater career began on Broadway, where he met his future wife, actress Brooke Adams. He has starred in numerous films, including "The Naked Brothers Band," "Galaxy Quest," "Men in Black II," and "1408."
In television, Shalhoub is best known for his role as the obsessive-compulsive detective Adrian Monk in the popular series "Monk," for which he won three Primetime Emmy Awards. He has also appeared in other television shows such as "Ally McBeal," "Frasier," and "MadTV."
Personal Life
In 1992, Shalhoub married Brooke Adams and adopted her daughter, Josie Lynn. They later adopted a second daughter, Sophia. The family resides in Los Angeles, spending weekends and holidays at their estate in Green Bay.
