Early Life and Career
Patrik Elias (born April 13, 1976) is a Czech-born professional hockey player who currently plays in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New Jersey Devils. He is a center and has spent his entire NHL career with the Devils. His surname has Polish roots but is pronounced in an English manner.
NHL Draft and Early Career
Elias was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the first round, 20th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Devils in the 2005-06 season and quickly became a key player for the team. In the 2009-10 season, Elias helped the Devils reach the Stanley Cup Finals, where they ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Kings.
International Career
Elias has also represented his country at the international level, playing for the Czech Republic at the 2009 World Championships and winning a silver medal.
