Biography of Tsumori Chisato

Tsumori Chisato is a Japanese designer known for her vibrant and playful fashion creations. Born and raised in Japan, Chisato developed a passion for dressing up dolls during her childhood. Her mother noticed this interest and encouraged her to pursue a career in fashion design. In 1976, Chisato graduated from Bunka Fukusogakuin, the most prestigious fashion college in Japan.

Her talent caught the attention of renowned designer Issey Miyake, who hired her to work on his sports line, Issey Sport. However, Chisato's aspirations led her to establish her own brand in 1990. She launched I.S.Chisato Tsumori Design, which quickly gained popularity and now has 50 points of sale, including flagship stores in Tokyo and Paris. In 2002, Chisato received the prestigious Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix award.

Chisato's international success came in 2003 when she showcased her collection in Paris. Her designs feature colorful and whimsical elements, such as flowy skirts, balloon silhouettes, and patchwork fabrics. Despite the abundance of colors and textures, her clothing exudes femininity and playfulness, making the wearer appear youthful and innocent.
