Early Life and Family
Tsunenaru Takeda was born in Changchun, the capital of the puppet state of Manchukuo, on the second son of Prince Takeda Tsuneyoshi and Princess Sanyo Mitsuko. As a member of a junior branch of the Japanese Imperial Family, he held the title of Imperial Prince at birth. However, in 1947, when all members of the Imperial Family's collateral lines were stripped of their imperial titles and status, he became a commoner of Japan at the age of three.
Education and Sports
Takeda graduated from Keio University, where he excelled in sports, including rugby and ice hockey. Shortly after graduating, he married the daughter of Shigeru Okada, the chairman of the Mitsukoshi department store. The couple has two children.
Business Career
Takeda spent his professional life as an entrepreneur, working for the trading company Itochu from 1967 to 2005. He also served as president of the food industry company Chuo Setsubi Engineering from 2005 to 2007.
Diplomatic Career
On August 7, 2007, Takeda was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Bulgaria. He served in this role until November 29, 2010.
Honors
In September 2010, Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov awarded Takeda with the Order of the Balkan Mountains for his contributions to bilateral relations between Japan and Bulgaria.
