NASA Astronaut Nick Hague
Nick Hague is a NASA astronaut who has participated in two space missions:
First Flight and Emergency Landing: October 2018
On October 11, 2018, Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin embarked on a Soyuz MS-10 flight to the International Space Station (ISS). During the flight, a malfunction in the rocket's second stage forced the crew to abort the mission. The emergency escape system activated, and the spacecraft successfully landed in Kazakhstan.
Second Flight and Spacewalks: March 2019
On March 14, 2019, Hague returned to the ISS as a flight engineer on Soyuz MS-12. Along with Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin and NASA astronaut Christina Koch, he joined the Expedition 59/60 crew.
During his current mission, Hague participated in three spacewalks:
- March 22, 2019:Hague and NASA astronaut Anne McClain performed a spacewalk to install adapter panels and connect three new batteries on the P4 truss segment of the ISS.
- March 29, 2019:Hague and NASA astronaut Christina Koch continued the previous spacewalk by replacing three nickel-hydrogen batteries with lithium-ion batteries and preparing for a future spacewalk.
- August 21, 2019:Hague and NASA astronaut Andrew Morgan performed a spacewalk to connect power and communication cables to a newly installed module on the ISS.
Education and Early Career
Prior to becoming an astronaut, Hague served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He holds degrees from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School. He participated in various flight test programs and served in Iraq before joining NASA in 2013.
NASA Selection and Current Mission
In 2013, Hague was selected as a NASA astronaut. He was assigned as a flight engineer for the Soyuz MS-10 and ISS-58 missions. He continues to serve as a flight engineer on the ISS-59/60 mission.
