Early life and Education
Tzipi Hotovely was born on December 5, 1978, in Rehovot, Israel, to Georgian immigrants Gabriel and Rosiko Hotovely. She attended the religious Bnei Akiva school in Tel Aviv and served two years in the IDF as an instructor. Hotovely later earned a BA and an MA in law with honors from Bar-Ilan University.
Activism and Journalism
During her university years, Hotovely became involved in the World Union of Jewish Students, representing the organization at a conference in South Africa. She also served as a representative of Bnei Akiva in France. From 2006, she participated in the Israeli political program "SMART Board" on Channel 10, where she often criticized the policies of Ehud Olmert and supported calls for his resignation after the Second Lebanon War.
Political Career
In 2008, Hotovely joined the Likud party and secured the 18th spot on the party's primary list. She entered the Knesset after Likud gained 27 seats, becoming one of the youngest members of the 18th Knesset. Hotovely advocated for granting Israeli citizenship to Arab residents of Judea and Samaria and for extending Israeli sovereignty over all territory under Israeli control since the 1967 Six-Day War.
Positions in Government
In November 2012, Hotovely was ranked 10th in the Likud primary and became a member of the 19th Knesset. She served as Deputy Minister of Transportation in Benjamin Netanyahu's third government and was appointed Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Space with ministerial powers on December 23, 2014.
Personal Life
Tzipi Hotovely is an Orthodox Jew who advocates for tolerance and pluralism within Judaism. She married attorney Or Alon on May 13, 2013, and they have three daughters.
