Biography of Andy Card

Andy Card, the Chief of Staff to the President of the United States, was born in 1947 in Holbrook, Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in engineering and later studied at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Political Career

Card began his political career in the Massachusetts Legislature and quickly rose through the ranks. In 1980, he led the presidential campaign of George H.W. Bush in Massachusetts and became closely associated with the Bush family. When Bush became the President of the United States, Card served as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House. In 1992, he was appointed as the Secretary of Transportation as a reward for his unwavering loyalty to Bush. After leaving the government, Card went on to lead the American Automobile Manufacturers Association from 1993 to 1998 and later served as the Vice President of General Motors.

Chief of Staff

Card is currently serving as the Chief of Staff to the President of the United States, a position that is considered the third most important in the administration. He is part of a small group of people that the President relies on heavily and has become indispensable to his daily operations. Card is known for his pragmatic and risk-averse approach, which reflects the characteristics of the new administration.

Personal Life

Card met his wife, Kathleen, in school, and they have three children and four grandchildren.
