Foundation and Early Success

ЮЗ, an alternative rock band, emerged in St. Petersburg on February 6, 1988. Despite rumors that they originated in the south, this claim remains unverified. The band's first performance took place at School No. 257 on October 6th of the same year. By December, they had joined the local rock club.

Rise to Prominence

Through numerous live shows, ЮЗ gained widespread recognition and popularity. Their unique blend of rock 'n' roll and punk harmony set them apart from other bands of their time. They reached a significant milestone by performing a solo concert at the prestigious Yubileiny Sports Complex, a privilege not often granted to punk bands.

Uncertainty and Disbandment

After achieving success, the band's future became uncertain. Members pursued solo projects or joined other bands. Santör, the vocalist, released acoustic albums and co-founded a new group called Bivni. Che Guevara, also known as Dron, joined the hardcore band Palsy Khary before moving on to Deadushky. Rumors of a member's death circulated, but these remain unsubstantiated.

Unexpected Rebirth

In 2002, the band surprised fans with the release of a new album, "Druzhok." Santör explained the reasons behind this unexpected revival in a public message. The album included old tracks as well as new material, featuring raw and energetic punk-infused rock.

Continuation and Legacy

With Santör at the helm, ЮЗ evolved into Bivni, which became the band's continuation. They released a new album, "Dvadsatyi Igrok," dedicated to the supporters of Zenit St. Petersburg football club. The band continued to perform live and plan future releases.

Preservation and Appreciation

Despite their lack of mainstream recognition, ЮЗ remains a beloved band among punk and alternative rock enthusiasts. Their legacy lives on through their recorded music, which is available for download on their website. Fans and collectors eagerly seek any remaining artifacts of the band's past, recognizing the enduring impact of ЮЗ on the Russian music scene.
