Antoine Alexandre Augustin Jouanno

Early Life and Political Involvement

French journalist and agronomist Antoine Alexandre Augustin Jouanno emerged as a prominent figure during the reign of Louis-Philippe. As a member and editor of democratic newspapers, he faced imprisonment and published a notable work on the prisons of Paris, "Les Prisons de Paris" (1841).

Role in the Second Republic

During the Second Republic, Jouanno served as a member of the Constituent and Legislative Assemblies. He founded "La Feuille du village," a democratic newspaper specifically aimed at rural communities.

Exile and Return

In the wake of the December 2 coup, Jouanno spent a period in exile. Upon the establishment of the Third Republic, he was elected as a deputy and later as a senator.

Agronomic Writings

Jouanno's passion for agronomy led him to author numerous articles and books. His collected writings on the subject were published as "Causeries sur l'agriculture et l'horticulture" (1864). Other notable works included "Le Livre de la ferme et des maisons de campagne" (1890), "Les Paysans sous la royauté" (1850-1851), and "Nouvelles lettres aux paysans" (1871).
