Early Life and Boxing Career

Vadim Mikhailovich Emelyanov was born on April 25, 1942, in the Krasnodar region of the Soviet Union. At the age of 16, he began boxing at the Army Sports Club in Leningrad, where he trained under Vladimir Ivanovich Kurkin, a distinguished coach of the Russian SFSR. Emelyanov competed in the heavyweight category (over 90 kg).

Military Service and Team Creation

From the 1960s to 1977, Emelyanov served in the Northern Naval Construction Department in Severomorsk, Murmansk Oblast. Concurrently, he founded and coached a boxing team composed of military constructors.

Sporting Achievements

In his career, Emelyanov fought 158 bouts, winning 141 of them. In international competitions, he emerged victorious in 19 out of 24 matches. His major achievements included:

- Bronze medal at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo

- Three-time medalist at the USSR Championships

- Gold medalist at the 1963 Friendly Armies Sports Committee Championship

- Gold medalist at the 1963 European Cup

Legacy and Commemoration

Tragically, Emelyanov died on May 29, 1977, at the age of 35. He was laid to rest at the memorial cemetery in Severomorsk. Since 1985, the "Bogatyr" Boxing Club in Severomorsk has hosted an annual Class "A" boxing tournament in his memory.
