Early Life and Military Service
Vadim Nikolaevich Krasnoselsky was born in the village of Dauria, Transbaikal Region, Russian SFSR (now part of Russia) in 1970. His father was a military serviceman. In 1978, the family moved to Bender, Moldova, where Krasnoselsky completed secondary school in 1987.
In 1993, he graduated with honors from the Kharkiv Higher Military Command Engineering School.
Career in Law Enforcement
After graduation, Krasnoselsky joined the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) of Transnistria. He held various positions in the Bender Police Department (GOVD), including senior engineer, operational officer, and deputy head of the Economic Crimes Unit (OBEP).
From 2000 to 2003, he served as deputy head of the OPEP in the central apparatus of the MVD of Transnistria. In 2002, he graduated from the law faculty of the Pridnestrovskaya State University named after Taras Shevchenko.
In 2003, Krasnoselsky was appointed head of the Bender GOVD (later renamed the Bender Police Department). In 2006, he became First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, a position he held until January 10, 2007.
On January 10, 2007, by the decree of President Igor Smirnov of Transnistria, Krasnoselsky was promoted to Minister of Internal Affairs. In January 2007, he was awarded the special rank of colonel of police, and in November 2008, he became a major general of police. In February 2012, he was relieved of his position by newly elected President Yevgeny Shevchuk.
Political Career
After leaving the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Krasnoselsky worked as head of the security service for the Sheriff holding company from February 2012 to December 2015.
In the parliamentary elections of December 2015, he was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of Transnistria (6th convocation) for the 7th single-mandate constituency (city of Bender). On December 23, he was elected Chairman of the Supreme Council.
During his tenure as speaker, Krasnoselsky became a political rival to unpopular President Shevchuk.
Presidential Candidacy and Election
On September 21, 2016, Krasnoselsky announced his intention to run for President of Transnistria. On September 23, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Transnistria registered him as a candidate.
In his election campaign, Krasnoselsky promised to provide free gas and public transportation to pensioners, as well as create 15,000 new jobs. His candidacy was supported by Russian politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
On foreign policy, he rejected any form of reintegration with Moldova, both the Western-proposed plan and the federalization plan proposed by Moldovan President Igor Dodon.
The election was held in a tense atmosphere, with threats being made against Krasnoselsky by then-President Shevchuk. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who oversaw the issue, had to visit the breakaway state.
On December 11, 2016, Krasnoselsky was elected President of Transnistria in the first round, defeating incumbent President Shevchuk with 62.3% of the vote. On December 12, the CEC issued him a certificate of election.
Presidency
On December 16, 2016, Krasnoselsky was inaugurated as President of Transnistria in a ceremony held at the Pridnestrovian State Theater of Drama and Comedy named after N.S. Aronetskaya.
Family
Krasnoselsky is married to Svetlana Krasnoselskaya, a philologist who worked as a Russian language and literature teacher. They have three children: Ivan, Genevieve, and Sofia.
