Early Life and Education
Vadim Yuryevich Panov was born on November 15, 1972, into a "classic military family." His early life was marked by frequent moves and school changes. In 1983, his family relocated to Moscow, where Panov completed high school and enrolled in the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) in 1989. He specialized in Avionics (Radio Electronics of Flight Vehicles).
During his university years, Panov actively participated in the student theater "Zerkalo." In 1994, his play "Such Games" was staged by the theater. It was at MAI that Panov met his future wife, Natalia. In 1995, he graduated as a radio engineer.
Literary Career
Panov's literary journey began in 2001 with the publication of "Wars are Started by Losers," a "fantasy-urban" novel. This work marked the beginning of his renowned "Secret City" cycle. Panov was 29 years old at the time.
"I enjoy writing books. I'm glad that my stories resonate with so many people," Panov stated. "That's why I followed 'Secret City' with 'Enclaves' and the сборник 'La Mystique De Moscou,' a mystical series that I hope to continue."
Panov's prolific writing has resulted in several critically acclaimed works, including "Enclaves" (cyberpunk) and "La Mystique De Moscou" (urban fantasy).
Personal Life and Influences
Panov is a father to two daughters, Polina and Irina. He regularly engages with his readers through book signings, interviews, and a dedicated forum on his website. Natalia Panov, his wife, is the first and "strictest critic" of his writings.
Besides his literary pursuits, Panov also has business interests. It is important to note that accusations of antisemitism have been raised against Panov, as many of the negative characters in his novels are of Jewish origin.
