Born in 1927, Vadim Ivanovich Tumanov is a Russian entrepreneur and gold miner. A native of Sovetskaya Gavan, he is known for his contributions to the gold mining industry.

Formative Years

During World War II, as a young boy, Tumanov yearned to serve on the front lines. At the age of fourteen, he joined the Komsomol and later fought in the war.

Trials and Tribulations

Tumanov is a prominent figure among Russia's new entrepreneurs. His life has been marked by adversity and triumph. Aspiring to be a sailor, he enrolled in a navigators' school but abandoned his maritime career. In 1948, at the age of 20, he was arrested by Stalin's repressive forces and sentenced to eight years in labor camps for alleged anti-Soviet propaganda. However, he was in fact imprisoned for his admiration of the poet Sergei Yesenin. Refusing to resign himself to the unjust verdict, Tumanov attempted to escape from the camps eight times. He was ultimately exonerated and released after Stalin's death.

Rise in the Gold Mining Industry

After his release, Tumanov established an artel, a cooperative for gold mining. He made significant contributions to the country's gold production. His success earned him the accolade of "Academician."

Friendship with Vladimir Vysotsky

Tumanov was a close friend of the legendary singer-songwriter Vladimir Vysotsky. Vysotsky dedicated songs to him and depicted his life in his work, including the book "The Black Candle" and the film "The Lucky One."

Literary Endeavors

In 2004, Tumanov published his autobiography, "To Lose Everything and Start Anew with a Dream." In it, he recounts his experiences in the Kolyma camps, the formation of prominent mining cooperatives, and his encounters with remarkable individuals.
