Biography of John Fredriksen

John Fredriksen, a Norwegian oil magnate, is the owner of the world's largest fleet of oil tankers. He is one of the richest individuals on the planet, with an estimated fortune of approximately $7 billion. Fredriksen was ranked 116th on Forbes' list of billionaires a few years ago. He was also recognized as a prominent billionaire by the Norwegian publication "Kapital".

Early Life and Career Beginnings

John Fredriksen was born in Oslo, Norway in 1944, into a family of a welder. He started his career at the age of 27 as a broker trainee for a shipping company. Since then, his career has skyrocketed. In the 1980s, during the Iran-Iraq war, Fredriksen rapidly accumulated his own capital through oil extraction in large quantities. One of his biographers described him as someone who withstood extraordinary competition.

Ownership of Oil Tankers and Diversification

Currently, John Fredriksen is the most significant owner of oil tankers, with a fleet of over seventy ships. His tankers are considered to be the safest in terms of environmental and other aspects. In addition to his involvement in the oil industry, Fredriksen's business activities extend into agriculture and fish farming.

Interests and Investments

In 2007, it was reported by the British newspaper "Daily Mail" that Fredriksen had shown interest in purchasing a Premiership football club. This interest was justified by his previous ownership of Valerenga I.F. Fredriksen is also the owner of real estate in London, Cyprus, and other places. He cherishes his properties, refusing to sell even a relatively small estate in the center of London to the well-known figure Roman Abramovich for any amount of money.

Relocation to Cyprus

John Fredriksen currently resides in Cyprus, having left Norway. His decision to move was not due to unsuitable climate, but rather because he finds the Cypriot tax regime more favorable for his business. He has officially registered his investment firm, Hemen Holding, in Cyprus, through which he manages Frontline Ltd. Another company owned by Fredriksen, Sea Tankers, is also located in Limassol, Cyprus.

Legacy and Recognition

James Winchester, an analyst, has referred to Fredriksen as a "modern-day Onassis, the king of the oil tanker fleet". Fredriksen's position at the forefront of the lucrative oil industry, with the largest fleet of ships, solidifies his status as one of the wealthiest individuals in the world.
