Vaibhav Suri: Indian Chess Grandmaster
Vaibhav Suri is an Indian chess grandmaster who hails from New Delhi. Born in 1997, he was introduced to the game at an early age by his father, Nitin Suri, a manager in a garment export company.
Early Life and Training
Suri received his primary education at the Modern School in Delhi. His initial chess coaches were G.B. Joshi and Prasenjit Dutta. Later, he trained under Ukrainian grandmaster Alexander Goloschapov.
Grandmaster Title
Suri's talent and dedication paid off when he achieved the Grandmaster title in 2012 at the age of 15 during an open tournament in Lille, France. This remarkable feat made him one of the youngest Indian players to earn the title.
Notable Achievements
In 2017, Suri triumphed in the ChessBase India online blitz tournament, scoring an impressive 8.0/10 against 15 other Indian grandmasters. The same year, he finished as runner-up in the Commonwealth Championship, narrowly missing out on the title to Abhijit Gupta in the seventh round.
