Biography of Valerie Plame Wilson

Valerie Elise Plame Wilson was born on April 19, 1963, at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. She grew up in a military family and had a strong sense of public duty. Her father was a colonel in the United States Air Force and worked for the National Security Agency.

Plame graduated from Lower Moreland High School in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, and earned a bachelor's degree in advertising from Pennsylvania State University in 1985. She later received dual master's degrees from the London School of Economics and Political Science and the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.

Before joining the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Plame briefly married Todd Sesler, her college boyfriend. In 1997, while working for the CIA, she met former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV at a reception in Washington, D.C. They fell in love, and on April 3, 1998, they got married. Plame's first marriage had ended in divorce, and Wilson's second marriage had also ended in divorce.

Plame worked as a covert operative for the CIA, serving in Athens and Brussels. She also worked as an analyst for the private company Brewster Jennings & Associates, which was later revealed to be a CIA front company. In her role, she focused on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

In 2003, Plame's career came to an abrupt end when her identity as a CIA agent was leaked to journalist Robert Novak. This leak led to a scandal involving several individuals, including White House officials, and resulted in Plame's resignation from the CIA in December 2005.

Plame and Wilson filed a civil lawsuit against Karl Rove, Lewis Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney, and other high-ranking officials, accusing them of being involved in the disclosure of her covert status. The lawsuit was ultimately dismissed by a judge, and the couple appealed the decision. However, the appeal was also rejected.

Plame's story was later adapted into the movie "Fair Game," released in 2010. The film depicted Wilson's accusations against the Bush administration regarding the falsification of intelligence to justify the war in Iraq. Plame was portrayed by Naomi Watts in the movie.

Despite the challenges she faced, Plame remains an advocate for government transparency and has continued to speak out on issues of national security and the importance of protecting intelligence operatives.
