Virgil Calmaciu was born in a humble town in Moldova and spent his early years pursuing a diverse range of interests. After completing his secondary education at Kishinev School No. 3 in 1956, he embarked on a journey of artistic exploration.
Filmmaking Career
In 1957, Calmaciu enrolled in the prestigious All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow, majoring in screenwriting. He graduated in 1963, marking the inception of his esteemed filmmaking career. As a screenwriter, he collaborated on numerous renowned films, including "When Storks Fly Away" and "The Man Follows the Sun."
