Valeri Nichushkin
Valeri Nichushkin is a Russian professional ice hockey left winger currently a restricted free agent. He was drafted 10th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and has since played in the NHL and the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
Early Life and Career
Nichushkin was born on March 4, 1995, in Chelyabinsk, Russia. He began playing hockey at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks of youth hockey in Russia. At the age of 16, he made his professional debut with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL.
KHL Career
During his time with Traktor Chelyabinsk, Nichushkin quickly established himself as one of the most promising young players in the KHL. In the 2012-13 season, he led all KHL rookies in scoring with 25 goals and 24 assists. He also won the KHL Rookie of the Year award and was named to the KHL All-Star Team.
NHL Career
In 2013, Nichushkin was drafted by the Dallas Stars with the 10th overall pick. He made his NHL debut in the 2013-14 season and quickly became a regular in the Stars' lineup. He scored his first NHL goal on October 3, 2013, against the Los Angeles Kings.
In the 2014-15 season, Nichushkin played a significant role in the Stars' run to the Western Conference Finals. He scored 13 goals and 22 assists during the regular season and added 5 goals and 6 assists in the playoffs.
International Career
Nichushkin has also represented Russia at the international level. He won a gold medal with the Russian team at the 2014 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and a bronze medal at the 2015 IIHF World Championships.
Later Career
Following his time with the Stars, Nichushkin played for the Colorado Avalanche and the Nashville Predators before returning to the KHL with CSKA Moscow in 2021. He has continued to be a productive player in the KHL, winning the Gagarin Cup championship with CSKA in 2022.
